Obituary – Geoffrey Ashworth

Propertymark Trust trustee John Oakley pays his respects on beha;f of the Trust:

“I am sad to report the passing of Geoffery Ashworth who died in early December.

Geoffrey Ashworth was a member and Chairman of the College of Fellows for two terms totaling six years and, if my memory serves, the founder Chairman of the Benevolent fund which ultimately became our registered charity The Propertymark Trust.

Geoffrey had left instructions that a collection at his funeral should be shared with the Trust and one other charity that he was close to, The Salvation Army, and we have recently received the proceeds of that collection.

Those who knew Geoffrey will remember he was a very thoughtful and quiet man who was very considered in his approach.

He didn’t say much but when he did it was always well reasoned and appropriate.

He was committed to strengthening the professions educational, ethical and professional standards and left a lasting legacy when he wrote a comprehensive Estate agency Best Practice Manual which he generously donated to the then NAEA Education Sub-Committee.

This work helped shape thinking around education standards and practical professionalism around the sector.

He was instrumental in initiating the annual College of Fellows Dinner so that members could maintain their professional relationships and friendships and was also involved in organising reunions for past members of the College, enabling us to stay in touch and enjoy some social times together.

I, with many others, will miss his wise council and am grateful that he remembered us during his illness.”

The Propertymark Trust extends its sincere condolences to his partner Ann and to all his family and friends.
